Provincial Research Advisory Committee
Manufacturing took a centre stage during the 4th special Provincial Research Advisory Committee (PRAC) held recently at the SALGA House. The objective of the roundtable was to obtain accurate and recent information on the manufacturing sector, with specific reference to the fuel, petroleum and chemicals; clothing and textile; and agro-processing sub-sectors for evidence-based decision-making.
Researchers believe that manufacturing has got serious contribution towards the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), economic growth and job creation. In the 3rd quarter of 2019, the manufacturing sector accounted for R15.54 billion (9.6%) of the Free State’s GDP.
Participates included DESTEA, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Free State Business Chamber, Free State Development Cooperation, ITAU Milling, SAMTI and the Central University of Technology.
During the (PRAC) chaired by DESTEA, the focus was on the manufacturing sector, specifically its contribution to the Gross Domestic Products, employment creation, challenges, growth forecasts and recommendations to build the sector.
