Betlehem Air Show
Annual aviation and air show, to showcase aviation skills and capacitate the community. The event attract foreigners and contributes towards the economic spin-offs of the town
The longest running crop festival in South Africa. Established in 1968 the festival has a number of programmes running concurrently throughout the event such as children’s events, live music, workshop, tours and exhibitions. Activities include wine and chocolate pairing, cooking lessons etc.
Mangaung cultural festival is an ongoing annual showcase of African art, culture and various sporting codes. It is one of the largest emerging festivals in Africa as it has grown from having an audience of 30 000 in 1997 to 140 000.

|Tourism Resource Efficiency Programme||Developed in 2013 following the national resource efficiency campaign implemented in 2010-2012. A tourism greening and resource efficiency is a practical resource efficiency that tourism has identified which support the tourism sector. National Department of Tourism (NDT) has appointed National Cleaner Production Centre – South Africa (NCPC – SA) which is a key sustainability programme hosted through Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) which is mandated to increase South African industry competitiveness and sustainability through more resource efficiency and cleaner production.
Recruit and select young people who are doing their final year on Mechanical of Electrical engineering (N6) or have completed the N6 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Training entail theoretical component and practical learnership training programme. The participants will be placed at the NCPC assessed or graded tourism establishments for six months.
Participants’ duties and responsibilities will be to monitor (water, waste and energy-electricity) resource use on daily, weekly and monthly basis in line with NCPC assessment methodology. The participants will recommend to the establishment ways of becoming resource efficiency and green. The programme will be implemented in partnership with NCPC, offers skills and development through training, learner-ship and internship opportunities. Participants are given a stipend when undergoing experiential training.
|Youth Hospitality Programme||Programmes consists of 30% theory and 70% practical and young people has theoretical methodology and practical component. Participants are skilled in training, learnership and internship placement at all hospitality establishments in the tourism value chain. Participants are trained for a period of 12 months on the qualifications below: –
The initiative is implemented by National Department of Tourism in partnership with DESTEA and an appointed Service Provider whose accredited with CATHSSETA.
|Tourism Food Safety Assurer||The Food Safety programme is an internship/ experiential hospitality training programme targeting the unemployed youth of South Africa as part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) of the National Department of Tourism (NDT) in partnership with provinces. The programme covers theory and workplace training which lead to the attainment of an accredited skills programme (Personal hygiene and Food Safety Practices, Conduct Audits and Optimise product and process quality within quality management systems) accredited by Food and Beverage SETA and skills programme accredited by Health and Welfare SETA.
The learners will be trained in various unit standards which falls under the Food and Beverages Manufacturing Industry Sector Education and Training Authority.
