The Free State Department of Economic Development and Tourism invited the private sector, higher education institutions, development finance institutions, and industry leaders to participate and provide valuable input into the Industrialization Policy draft, which is intended to drive economic diversification and industrial growth within the Free State.
Held in Bloemfontein, the Indaba aimed to provide a strategic opportunity to engage stakeholders across sectors, particularly to validate policy priorities and consolidate partnerships that will facilitate effective policy implementation. Currently, the Department has developed a draft of the policy, and it now requires broad-based consultation to ensure inclusivity, alignment with national priorities, and sector relevance.
The day’s program sought to facilitate discussions that encourage economic transformation, growth, and inclusivity to continue building the Free State economy. Some of the topics discussed were industrial competitiveness and innovation, infrastructure and logistics, policy alignment, and investment support.
The resolutions and inputs from the engagement, which focused on strategic partnerships between the private and public sectors, creating access to the market for existing businesses, as well as creating a sustainable environment for industrialization to thrive in the Free State Province, will be considered for the final Industrialization Policy.
