Three Provinces unite @ Chargo River Lodge-Colesberg, Northern Cape.
Today, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT) joined a collaborative Tourism Month Launch between the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape & Free State Gambling Liquor and Tourism Authority (FSGLTA) to promote connected visitor journeys across provincial boundaries.
This initiative seeks to showcase seamless visitor experiences and demonstrate how interprovincial collaboration can strengthen domestic tourism promotion, maximize limited marketing resources, and encourage visitors to explore multiple destinations through integrated travel itineraries.
During the launch, Free State MEC for Finance, Economic Development, and Tourism, Ketso Makume, highlighted that the initiative introduces a collaborative Tourism approach that encourages travellers to combine experiences across the three provinces rather than viewing each destination in isolation.
“Through this joint campaign, the three provinces will promote Tourism routes and experiences that connect their complementary destination offerings such as nature, conservation, heritage, culture, adventure, stargazing, culinary tourism, rural experiences and water based activities.
While destinations are often marketed according to provincial boundaries, visitors are inspired by experiences rather than administrative borders. Therefore collaboration approach presents an opportunity to establish the first jointly hosted Tourism Month Launch and for neighboring provinces to collaborate in promoting complementary tourism offerings instead of marketing destinations in isolation,” said MEC Makume.
Beyond Tourism Month 2026, the initiative has the potential to evolve into an annual flagship collaboration, providing a platform for integrated destination marketing, shared media engagement and promotion of cross border tourism itineraries.
The CEO’s of the three tourism entities from all three provinces signed a landmark Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU), sealing a shared commitment to showcase destinations as one seamless tourism experience.
